Welcome to this collaborative project on the history of Jewishness at Davidson. In response to the broader campus climate following the unmasking of Davidson students with neo-Nazi affiliation on November 7th, 2018, a group of seven students formed an independent study and set out to write the first history of Jewishness at Davidson. This website serves to highlight the stories and experiences of Jewish members of our community. To learn more about how this project came to be, its purpose, and our process, visit our About page.
Our work has involved mainly contextual reading, archival research, and conducting oral histories. This platform is the culmination of our findings. Here you will find critical essays, detailed timelines of major events, 15 oral testimonies, and an exhibition of artifacts.
Please also visit our Special Thanks page for this project’s sources of inspiration and support, as well as other student projects that have worked to make the history of Davidson College more complete.
