2020s & Beyond
As shown in this timeline, the rise in the production of creative theses in the English department directly correlates to new additions to the curriculum as well as new faculty members. As students are given new opportunities to explore creative writing within the classroom in the late 1990s, we see a dramatic increase in the number of creative theses produced, a trend which continues through the 2020s. By the end of the 2021-2022 academic year, nineteen creative English thesis will exist from the 2020s thus far.
In comparison to statistics from previous decades, we can assume that the number of creative theses will continue to increase exponentially as creative writing flourishes and evolves at Davidson and beyond. The growth of creative theses at Davidson shows the curriculum adapting to changes in national literary trends and responding to student interests, encouraging strong work whatever the genre.
