[Page 2] Secretary’s Report for 1934-35
President: Mrs. Arbuckle. Vice-President: Mrs. Vinson
During this year, the Book Lover’s Club studied “The Relationship of Rivers to Civilization.” This subject, long contemplated and at least adopted, provided a very successful and interesting program. There was great diversity of treatment in the papers, some preferring to emphasize history, some literature, some geography in connection with their rivers; all the papers were characteristic of their writers, and therefore full of interest. The picnic was at Barium Springs. Where Mrs. Harding entertained the Club in November, she took us to Charlotte, where her two daughters Mrs. McGeachy and Mrs. Boeinger, entertained us most charmingly at Mrs. McGeachy’s home. At the December open meeting, Dr. Randthaler of Salem, who was to have lectured us, was prevented by illness and Prof. Beaty was an agreeable substitute, with an attractively polylingual talk on the love of books. The April open meeting was held in Mrs. W. L. Lingle’s garden; we invited lady guests instead of husbands, and had no program save enjoyment of a beautiful place. At the annual meeting
