- Born c. 1853-1855. He married his wife Maggie (or Margarett) in 1875, and in 1880, he is listed as living in Davidson with her and his daughters Annie, Emma, and Rosa. In 1900, he is listed as living in Davidson with his wife Margarett, daughters Rosa, Fannie Handwerker, Maggie, Mildred, Victoria, Attelia, and Sadie, sons Evanda, John, Grant, and an unnamed infant, and son in law Joe Handwerker. He died in 1927 after laboring on Davidson's campus for 59 years.
